Destroyed Studs Tutorial

Whether you're a total prepster or a rock 'n roll diva, there's no denying that studs are a must-have. The studs trend blossomed in Spring 2009 and died down somewhere last year. However, studs (like the rocker attitude) never say die! They evolved, and they are back. They add instant flair to everything from jeans to sandals, and lend a slight edginess to even the fussiest of fabrics. And after all, who doesn't love to be surrounded by studs, right?

In this Tutorial, I'll be showing you guys how to get the destroyed effect on studs. So you can stud your items!!

Things you need:
1) Poke Studs
2) Unwanted cardboard
3) Spray paint (colour of your choice)
4) Fine sand paper

Steps:
Select from silver or gold studs. I will be using silver studs in this tutorial.
Prepare a piece of corrugated cardboard. You can slice a portion off a cardboard carton. It's better to use a softer (not so sturdy) cardboard.

Push the studs down with the poke part perpendicular to the cardboard.
This will secure the studs easily! Space them out accordingly.

Prepare the spray paint of your choice. I will be using black.
You can try different combinations such as pink on gold studs, blue on gold studs, white on silver studs or even gold on silver studs and vice versa.

Spray the studs at a distance in thin layers.
Try this: Spray from 4 directions (Right, left, front and back) a thin layer. Wait for 10 mins so that it dries completely, then repeat. For the best effect, coat the studs with spray paint 3 times.

DO NOT
spray a thick layer and expect it to dry evenly!

When completely dried, remove and store them in a container.

Next, tear a small portion off your sandpaper.

Hold the small piece sandpaper with your fingers and move it along the pointed edges.
DO NOT be rough. Make sure to sand off the paint bit by bit.

Tadah! This is what you'll get.
Destroyed Studs!
The sprayed on colour on top, with the base colour revealing.

Try sanding off more/ or less on a different stud. I think the uneven effect looks good. You can even leave one pointed side untouched, so that only 3 sides will reveal the base (in this case, silver) colour.

Use the studs on bags, purses, shoes, greeting cards, wall deco (haha!).
I used them on my journal.

And.. I have studs for sale!
